May 1 - Labor Day in Hungary According to the website visitbudapest.travel: In Europe, Labor Day or International Workers Day is celebrated on May 1st. In the past this holiday was marked by parades, political rallies and speeches to celebrate workers and labor unions. Today, it means a day off and a celebration of spring with concerts, picnics and many outdoor activities. In 2014, (in Budapest) the main venue of the Labor Day celebrations will be on the banks of the Danube near Chain Bridge. The program starts at 11 am with a Red Bulls air show followed by a Red Bulls Formula 1 show with David Coulthard, Daniel Ricciardo and Timo Glock. In addition, City Park (Városliget) will offer a variety of programs all day long. There will be special May Day celebrations in Tabán with live concerts, kids programs and the traditional beer and sausage. May 1st is a public holiday and most businesses will be closed. In 2014, both May 1st and May 2nd are days off.
