Cyril & Methodias, Equal-to-the Apostles Illuminators of the Slavs :Renewal of Constantinople & St. Hieromartyr Mocius Epistle Lesson: Acts of the Apostles9:32-42 Gospel Lesson: John 5:1-15 Today, we honor all the mothers of our parish, past and present We would like to welcome all our new visitors to our parish this morning. We hope you have enjoyed worshiping and praying with us, and invite you to join us again. May God Bless You! Acts of the Apostles 9:32-42 IN THOSE DAYS, as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints that lived at Lydda. There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years and was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed. And immediately he rose. And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord. Now there was at Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. In those days she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him entreating him, Please come to us without delay. So Peter rose and went with them. And when he had come, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping, and showing tunics and other garments which Dorcas made while she was with them. But Peter put them all outside and knelt down and prayed; then turning to the body he said, Tabitha, rise. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. And he gave her his hand and lifted her up. Then calling the saints and widows he presented her alive. And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. The Gospel of John 5:1-15 - At that time, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Bethesda which has five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water; whoever stepped in first after the troubling of the water was healed of whatever disease he had. One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, Do you want to be healed? The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another steps down before me. Jesus said to him, Rise, take up your pallet, and walk. And at once the man was healed, and he took up his pallet and walked. Now that day was the sabbath. So the Jews said to the man who was cured, It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for you to carry your pallet. But he answered them, The man who healed me said to me, Take up your pallet, and walk. They asked him, Who is the man who said to you, Take up your pallet, and walk? Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you. The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. Community News Greek Night 2014 … It is with great joy and enthusiasm that we announce that once again we will be having our Annual Greek Night! This year, Greek Night will be held on Sunday, Julu 27th from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., on the Church grounds. We would like to invite you and your families to join us and be Greek for a day. We will be serving a traditional and authentic Greek cuisine consisting of Gyro, Pork & Chicken Souvlakia. To compliment your dinner, we will have a variety of Greek pastries to choose from and of course Loukoumades.. We will even have a gift shop set up for your shopping enjoyments. Once again, the Church needs the help and support of all its parishioner just like last year’s. We are collecting donations for the Greek Night, and if you wish to donate an item, please see Father Sam. The items which are needed are listed below But most of all, we ask of you to please purchase a raffle ticket(s) or try to sell them. By doing so, we can make this year’s Greek Night and raffle better than last year’s. Why do we stress the importance of the Raffle? Because it is the 2nd largest source of income we have at our parish next to the Stewardship Program. This year, the cost of the raffle ticket is $25. Tickets will be mailed to you, and again, we ask that you do your best and try to purchase or sell them. We will be giving a total of $10,000.00 in prizes. We are printing a total of 2500 tickets. If we sold all the tickets, our profit just from the raffle alone will be 52,500.00. So, you can see why we stress for everyone to come together and support our fest. Last year, we was a tremendous success, and this year we plan to even make it better and bigger! But in order for this to happen, I, Father Sam, am asking all of you personally, to join me and lets work side by side to make this Be Greek For A Day fest something for people to think about when they leave. He was into His sixth day of overtime when the angel appeared and said, Youre doing a lot of fiddling around on this one. AND THE LORD SAID.....Have you read the specs on this order? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts... all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up, a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair, and six pairs of hands. And the angel shook her head slowly and said, Six pairs of hands...no way. It is not the hands that are causing me problems, said the Lord, Its the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have. Thats on the standard model? asked the angel. THE LORD NODDED....One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks What are you kids doing in there? when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldnt, but what she has to know; and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say, I understand and I love you, without so much as uttering a word. Lord, said the angel touching his sleeve gently, go to bed, tomorrow.... I cant, said the Lord, Im so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick.... can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger, and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower. The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. Its too soft, she sighed. But tough! said the Lord excitedly. You cannot imagine what this mother can do or endure. Can it think? Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise, said the Creator. Finally the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. Theres a leak, she pronounced. I told you, you were trying to put too much into this model. Its not a leak, said the Lord. Its a tear. Whats it for? Its for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness and pride. Youre a genius, said the angel. THE LORD LOOKED SOMBER..... BUT I DIDNT PUT IT THERE.
