May 13, 2014 We left the Buea Court of Appeal just over an hour ago. It would be remembered that Oben Maxwell , a celebrated southern Cameroonian activist, was arrested at Buea on board a bus bound for Yaounde a week before the farce called 50th Anniversary of Reunification took place. On the eve of the event, he was transferred to Kondengui Maximum Security Prison in Yaounde in pursuance of the security of Mr. President. He was brought back to Buea shortly after the departure of Mr. President. When he was brought before the military tribunal, he was told for the first time that his offences were subversion, inciting war, terrorism etc. Following a number of questions from the examining military magistrate, he was remanded in prison custody for one year renewable. His counsel took out an appeal against an order bare of any known legal backing. When the matter last came up before the Buea Court of Appeal, the court ordered “orally” that the records of proceeding be sent to the court by the military tribunal before today’s hearing on the diligence of Oben’s counsel. Oben’s counsel told the court at today’s hearing that the military tribunal refused to comply with the court’s order until a written order has been notified to them. The Court of Appeal has now ordered that its written ruling of today be notified to the military tribunal for compliance on or before May 27, 2014. The flimsy, vexatious and facetious evidence before the military tribunal is that Oben Maxwell is said to have been caught reading a book about revolution and urban guerrilla warfare. By implication, he is contemplating organizing a revolution and/or urban guerrilla wars in Cameroon. Very very Camerounese indeed!
