May 20 The Day Darkness Descended on West Cameroon There is this mad rush in all the towns of Cameroun in preparation for the 42nd anniversary of the May 20 1972 Referendum . The paradox in all this is that citizens West of the Mungo River, former British Southern Cameroons are frantically involving themselves in the madness. What this analyst has to state here is not treason but reason coupled with true nationalism. In very clear terms we should state that May 20, 1972 marked the beginning of the descent into hell of West Cameroun and all that made it a promising Eldorado in Africa. 1972 marked the beginning of academic frustration for all inhabitants West of the Mungo. Prior to this period, education in West Cameroon was highly promoted throughout all the areas West of the Mungo. Schools were built on communal basis. In those good old days, every teacher, clerk etc saved money to enroll for a correspondence course like the Rapid Results Course, RSA, Pitman, LCC etc. Today, pro-francophone policies have laid barriers everywhere to discourage correspondence education amongst West Cameroonians. The example of the projected Universities …the CCAST Bambili and Technical College of Ombe are a shadow of themselves. Shortly after the “coup” called referendum, and for the first time, West Cameroonians were deprived of owning passport for the sole purpose of studying abroad. Youths were quarantined indefinitely between that dark 1972 and 1982 as there was a steady drop of West Cameroonians studying in the USA and Britain ( in relative terms). That year 1972 also marked the darkest year ever in the social development of all West Cameroonians. Prosperity got drowned in the saliva of La Republique du Cameroun. The aggressive fraudulent francophone introduced the Land Act in 1974, with its associated decrees, published in French whose translation into English is not accepted as authentic in constitutional terms following the 1972 Constitution which alienates West Cameroonians from their land. The fraudulent francophone tax laws and Gaullist principles destroyed many businesses in West Cameroon. Honest entrepreneurs got drowned by LRC like Nanga Company, Niba Automobiles Company at Mutengene etc. They transformed the West Cameroon Marketing Board, Power-Cam, Cameroon Bank, Cameroon Air Transport etc and other petty companies and trading firms into francophone bureaucracies. Petroleum mined West of the Mungo had royalties being paid in Douala, LRC. The institutionalization of social injustice in West Cameroon by LRC was as well manifested in the legal system and above all in the political domain for the sole aim of deculturization. Let us not forget that it was after EML Endeley organized, in a meaningful way, the down-trodden and their leaders into a potential political front…which led to a quasi autonomy in 1954. It collapsed due to frustration and humiliation masterminded by France. In the same light, it was Fru Ndi who, in a meaningful way, together with the down-trodden organized themselves into a political front, which reinstated multiparty politics and the nationalist spirit urging a return to West Cameroon…thanks, this time to the humiliation and frustration by LRC. It should be noted here that though the political powers are getting lost in the maze, the people are always on the right path. In the villages, they are quietly telling their children the truth….because assimilation makes a man act like a trained dog. It does not bark when it is time to bite, and doesn’t bite when it is time to bark! Of course, the people always have the last say, and usually it is a revolution or popular uprising in a war against oppression, exploitation, intimidation, humiliation and assimilation. One can just but conclude that the May 20, 1972 referendum was not done in good faith. It was not because the UN demanded it as a condition for “re-union” in 1961 (that the inhabitants of Southern Cameroon ,after ten years, will subject themselves to a referendum to indicate their “satisfaction” or dissatisfaction for being “reunited” with LRC.!! ) If it was for that reason, a referendum would have taken place only in West Cameroon, not in the entire country. The reason for the referendum was to realize the neo-colonial ambition of France with the help of their puppet like Ahidjo. What goes up must come down, and after having been in this prison for all these years, there are indicators that the 1968 Diabolic Pact to hold Southern Cameroonians down is expiring in 2018. It was that diabolic pact of 1968 by the Great 7 ( Ahidjo, Biya, Sabal Lecko, Sengat Kuo, Usman Mey, Musa Yaya and Ayissi Mvondo) that led to the dark cloud over West Cameroon in 1972. All the conspirators are in hell, except one, Biya. Even Pa Muna who facilitated the dark deal is gone as well. Nature will soon take its course when 2018 strikes…and the sun will once more shine on West Cameroon…God being our helper.
