May 2014 NY and NJ Port Authority Works to Increase Vehicle Shipping The Port Authority in New York and New Jersey is working to encourage car manufacturers to ship more vehicles from the port. Companies that are new to shipping in and out of the harbor will receive a significant discount for each vehicle transported. The highest level of car shipping out of the port was in 2007 when more than a million vehicles were transported. Last year around 745,000 new and used cars were shipped out of the port, which is the biggest importer and exporter of autos in the United States.
