May 2014, New York City: Hollywood and the fashion world came together at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Costume Institutes annual gala which celebrated the opening Costume Institutes new Anna Wintour Costume Center. This years theme of White Tie and Decorations paid homage to Charles James - who is the subject of the Anna Wintour Costume Centers inaugural exhibition titled Charles James: Beyond Fashion. The exhibition, which will be on view from May 8 through August 10, 2014 examines the career of legendary 20th-century Anglo-American couturier whose design process and use of sculptural, scientific, and mathematical approaches to construct revolutionary ball gowns and innovative tailoring continues to influence designers today.
