May 25, 1913 Manitoba Free Press Rube Waddell Puts in an Appearance DESPITE the fact that Geo. Edward “Rube” Waddell finally put in an appearance at River Park baseball enclosures yesterday afternoon it did not prevent the Rangers from being massacred at the hands of Tim Flood’s hired hands and the statistics this time read Winnipeg 12, Virginia* 3. Rube did not get into the game, but he made himself very prominent on the coaching lines and the big crowd of fans and fanesses had a good squint at the former big leaguer, though he did not get into action and left the park along about the seventh inning when he saw his team mates were getting slaughtered. Rube Waddell proved a big card to the bleacherites and the big fellow seemed to understand it as he tried to appear as prominent as possible. He even came over to the grand stand and had a little fun with Sammy Martin’s dog “Candy,” and played a little game of ball with the dog, just to let the grand stand folks have a good look at him. _____________________________________________ * The Northern League team in Virginia, Minnesota, was Rube last professional team
