May 25, 1965: 49 years ago today, The Seekers touched down in Australia for their first Australian tour. They shared a double bill with The Dave Clark Five, with support acts Tommy Quickly (a Brian Epstein protege whod had a minor UK hit in 1964 with Wild Side of Life) and the local duo, Bobby & Laurie. After a 36-hour flight from London to Perth, with stops in Rome, Delhi, Bombay, Madras and Singapore, The Seekers and The Dave Clark Five flew in to Perth at two in the morning on 25 May. The next night their tour kicked off at Perths Capitol Theatre. Over the coming three weeks, The Seekers played seven concerts. (Clippings from The Graham Simpson Archive.)
