May 27, 2014 Mid-State Kart Club Meeting Minutes (held at the track) Charlie Adams and Tom Tapocik motioned to approve the April meeting minutes. Financial report given by Andy Lascody, checking account balance = $35,967. The vintage race net profit was about $3500. Tom Tapocik motioned to approve the Treasurer’s report, seconded by Russ Kemple. Stacey Law has agreed to accept the nomination for the officer position of Treasurer. Andy will be meeting with her after the Arrive & Drive and Race #2 weekend to begin transitioning this to her. A vote was taken and Stacy Law was voted in as the new Treasurer. Mike Scaduto and Andy Lascody will continue to be available to assist Stacy as needed. Pursuant to Article IV, Section 7 of the By-laws, the Treasurer shall “notify the Board of Directors and the members annually of the option to have an audit or some other level of service conducted by an independent party of the Club’s financial statements. If the Board of Directors and the members decide to have an audit or some other level of service, the cost will be paid by the club.” Al Burkett motioned that no audit was necessary, seconded by Tom Tapocik. Club voted to not have an audit done this year. The next club race on June 14 will be a reverse direction race. Barriers for this event were repositioned after the club meeting. Al Burkett has been contacted about holding a WKA Gold Cup race at Mid-State in 2015. Club members agreed we should pursue this opportunity pending what is required from the contract from WKA. The club will have a booth at the Quaker Steak and Lube (QSL) bike night on June 26. Looking for a Kid Kart to have in the display. QSL has agreed to let us have a booth at three of their bike night events in exchange for us putting their sign up at the track. September 18 is another confirmed show night for MSKC. Emergency repairs are needed for one of the electrical panels in the garage that feed the track lights. B & B electric will be doing the repairs. They will also add an interior light to the garage. The club agreed to spend what was needed for the repairs as the lights are critical for the next event. Track maintenance items were discussed. Tom Tapocik will look into the cost of new shingles for the garage. A track work event will possibly be scheduled on an upcoming Wednesday evening to do tower painting and scale ramps and platform painting. Notification will be sent out to the membership. Al Burkett will look into the cost of purchasing Freeburn’s surface coating for the cracks in the track pavement that need filled and sealed. It was agreed that the corners in the oval need coated at a minimum. Coating of the house corner will be deferred due to the possibility that we may rebuild that section of the track at the end of this racing season. Pit expansion and adding more gravel to the entrance road was discussed. Road millings should now be available and the plan is to have this done prior to the September Route 66 Series event. The PA needs a better radio with a stronger receiver (digital) for the repeater in the garage. Tim Strawkas will test an amplifier that Joe Brittin has. Looking for an older stereo amplifier with a digital tuner that anyone would like to donate. Discussion of purchasing a remote control safety light to be located before entering monza corner was brought up again. Cost would be near $1100. Agreed to defer the vote on this until the June meeting pending what the cost of the Freeburn track coating and electrical repairs will be. Jeff Scott’s dad can provide the tech tools for the new LO206 class so there is no need to purchase the tools at this time. Volunteers for upcoming club races. Discussion of paid flagman and score person were considered but decided it would set a bad precedence as all volunteers might expect to be paid. The pole position driver starting each race will be expected to provide a corner worker if needed. The club will send out emails and Facebook posts prior to each race letting members know what volunteer positions still need to be filled for that event. Todd Rettig discussed that some Yamaha Junior Sportsman competitors were complaining about the advantage of the 4-hole can, although a 3-hole can won race #1. It was decided that the intent of the class was to follow Junior Sportsman rules that utilize the 4-hole can. Three-hole cans are still welcome to race with a 25 lb weight advantage and younger inexperienced drivers are also encourage to use the 3-hole can. We cannot split the class as this must be done at the annual rules meeting. Motion to adjourn meeting by Tom Tapocik, seconded by Jim Rowe. Attendees: Joe Brittin, Jim Rowe, Al Burkett, Tom Tapocik, Mike Curry, Tim Strawkas, Andy Lascody, Russ Kemple, Leeann Butera, Dick Buecker, Charlie Adams, Bryan Coulter and Todd Rettig.
