May 4, 2014 The Bridge Meditations You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:23 My little flower was amazing. One April day, my mother gave me the tiny black seed of a moss rose. I planted it in a baby food jar. It thrived all summer in the humid heat, sprawling over the sides of the jar and occasionally blooming. In the fall, I brought the moss rose to my second-grade class to avoid the killing frost. We set it in the sunny school-room window. I faithfully watered it, pinched off dead flowers and turned the jar in the sun. The flower responded with bountiful blooms. I began to believe this tenacious annual plant could live forever if it had the right care. November passed. December. January. The branches grew gnarled like a bonsai yet profuse buds opened week after week. Inevitably though, the plant started to die. Flower buds became sparse. Leaves looked dry despite expert waterings. By March the flower was a tangle of dry branches. Dont we all hope to be doted upon in Gods garden, watered and tended and nurtured far beyond our imagination during our time on earth? Such favor is Gods promise to us. New seed - brought forth by the word of God - will flourish in our lives. Jesus Christ will coax us to give out more beauty, color and surprise than we ever thought possible. Prayer: God of renewal, lavish your living word in and around and through our lives. Amen Question: Which of my new seeds is getting special care from God?
