May 6-12, 2014: National Nurses Week Every year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the many contributions of Americas 3.1 million registered nurses, who work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, who comprise the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. This year’s American Nurses Association theme for National Nurses Week, Nurses Leading the Way, illustrates the essence of the more than 90,000 VA nursing staff across VHA. Annually, National Nurses Week begins May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends May 12, on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. During this designated week, registered nurses across the VA health care system will be honored at their local VA facilities. Please join the celebration of VA Nursing’s excellence in providing health care, and thank a VA Nurse for their continuous efforts in advocating, leading, and caring for those Veterans who have served America.
