May Coordinator Message: We have good news from the NC Main Street Office! Governor Pat McCrory announced that his budget will include a $500,000 appropriation for the Main Street Solutions Fund Program, which funds rehabilitation efforts in Main Street Program Communities. After completing a workshop at the NC Main Street Conference in March, MAD, Inc. is now eligible to apply for these funds that will allow us to receive up to $200,000 for rehabilitation projects that create or retain full-time jobs within the Municipal Service District. The Main Street Solutions Fund Program has had tremendous success, with $2.6 million that has been awarded for 16 downtown projects in North Carolina. These projects have leveraged an additional nearly $14 million in public and private investment, and assisted 44 small businesses that have created and retained 230 full-time jobs, and nearly 200 part-time jobs. In addition, Governor McCrory also announced his support for legislation to replace the sun setting NC Historic Tax Credit.—this credit provides a 20% tax credit for rehabilitation expenditures of historic buildings. Combined with the Federal Historic Tax Credit (20% of rehab expenditures), and the MAD Façade Grant Program ($3,000), it makes sense to invest in Historic Downtown Mount Airy!
