May we take cuttings from your Apricots for research? This is a call for any of you who have old, mature apricot trees who live in the Northern counties in Kansas or further North! Doug Grimm and Myron Strahm are continuing the work of Frank Morrison, Kansas State Fruit Extension Specialist to develop a stronger apricot tree. They are looking for trees with fruit that is not stringy, good sized, and has good flavor. To develop these new trees, Doug will take some cuttings of small branches on your tree. Then he will bring them back to rootstock that we have been growing and graft your tree onto the rooted tree. Who knows? Someday your tree may be well known! These cuttings must be taken in the next few weeks to be successful (because they are still mostly dormant). Please, please, please call or email if you have an old, established tree and would be willing to donate a few small branches! Thank you so much!
