Maybe Im in a dark mood right now, but I have a theory as to why so many people in this country are opposed to gay marriage. In our Androcentric world, two women marrying is offensive, because a woman is meant to be dominated by a male, and by having two women in the relationship, the valid dominator is deprived of his victim. By having two men in a relationship, there is no one to dominate, and an equal-partner power dynamic in a marriage is UNTHINKABLE.
