Maybe Thanksgiving is a time for forgiving as well. I am thankful for many things. But ... today I would like to say that I am especially thankful for our ability as humans to forgive one another. Unfortunately, forgiving can be one of the hardest things in life to do. We say the words, and in our heart we truly want to forgive. Unfortunately we all have this thing called memory that allows us to recall the past. Unfortunately sometimes the person you forgave might trigger something they did to hurt you. Unfortunately we say hurtful things to them because we are somehow reminded of the past pain Even though we told them that we forgave them the scares of the past seem to remain. Unfortunately we(humans) think by unleashing hurtful words in our own defense will help or in some odd way protect us from more pain, or maybe even change the past. ... It doesnt ... it, just brings more pain to yourself and the one you really love. So today I would be extremely thankful and grateful to those I love and have hurt if they would find it in their hearts to forgive me for not always being good at forgiving them. I figure if two people love one another and keep on forgiving and forgiving, and forgiving ... that in time the trust lost can be rebuilt, the past forgotten and what is ( really ) important can take over.... and that would be their LOVE they found in one another in the first place. (Whats strange about LOVE is that the more you LOVE someone , the harder it is to forgive them. I think because in our minds we place them on a higher pedestal then others. In other words if a fair weathered friend was to do the very same thing they did, you might think no big deal and move on. But if that someone special does it .... we magnify the pain, because they were the one we least expected would hurt us. So if you love someone, I guess the thing to remember if forgiving is really going to have a chance is that they are human too, and we all make mistakes.)
