Maybe a momentous cultural moment on CNN this afternoon. I have a horrible feeling that someone in the CNN offices has determined that the they are still alive angle, promulgated almost solely by one girlfriend (now aka partner) of a missing person on Malaysia Flight 370, Sarah Bacj, is trending the most, and so they have gone with that angle. They have replayed Bacjs speculations from last night several times today, and today Brooke Baldwin even interviewed Discovery Channels Naked and Afraids EJ Snyder (who I actually know of because I tuned in the other night for the first time ever to see the naked, only got the afraid), who offered a human spirit survivalist spin on this angle. Since the NTSB data has now focused the search on a spot west of Australia, deep in the Indian Ocean, where there are no islands, this has to be called the Skull Island phase of the delirium (named after the FICTIONAL island in King Kong, and I actually felt Peter Jackson in the 2005 remake situated Skull Island nearer to Australia, far out of shipping lanes; second image from unrelated fan blog that located it exactly there). Some people are watching because they are believing in desert isle scenarios. Also, as the experts are forced to answer twitter questions from viewers you can see them wince and shrug, they have lost control of the conversation. All of this is getting way beyond gaming-mentality, way beyond tabloid, something new and horrible is emerging right in front of our eyes.
