Maybe a silly question... I got my telescope in April. At the time M42 was visible and I was able to see the nebula, not as vivid is many of the astrophotos, but I was able to see a green/blue cloud. I scanned several nebula the other night with my NS8 and I found clusters of stars in the nebula, but never any clouds. Is this because I was in heavy light pollution (red zone)? Or are the clouds just not visible to the human eye? Examples are the eagle nebula, omega nebula, and others in that general area. I tried 40mm-6mm eyepieces, averted gaze. I also noticed my XT8 tends to show DSOs brighter than my Nexstar 8, I guess because the light doubles back on its self more times. I have a few filters but I dont know which to use for which situation and anytime I try them, it just dims everything to the point I see even less than before applying the filter.
