Maybe im crazy, but i believe even the dead who have committed terrible crimes should be remembered for what they did, not have schools named after them, holidays, hospitals because they did something that appeased one aspect of community. But this is a reality, and the majority would rather embrace the familiar rather than face the demon they have been nurturing. Trick to being guiltless, dont be guilty! In truth, nearly every aspect of american society is bathed in the blood of my people, and it is ignored. When we think of immigrant in this country, most immediately conjure images of indigenous people (Central/South american). When the people who get burned by the sun are called natives... When we look ay slavory, we imagine the terror our African relatives endured. Yet we ignore all the Native american slaves who in many cases outnumbered African slaves. When we think about Boarding schools---oh wait, american children dont learn about how the u.s. gov has murdered/raped and buried thousands of innocent indigenous children in unmarked graves all along the roads you travel.. When i look at the layout of my own city, i see how my people are put into communities like the waterman gardens, where people would be trapped should the police choose to block the entrance and exits. They build walls like prisons, like the one they are building next to the 10 freeway. A small indistinct berlin wall separating the privileged people in riverside from the brown people of San bernardino. But, ya, maybe im crazy... If thats the case, i wear it proudly as i march towards my destiny.
