Maybe we should try following conservative economist Arthur Laffers idea of a revenue neutral gas tax. I personally think we should implement a revenue neutral carbon tax and not just limit it to gasoline. I think rather than income tax reductions (to make the carbon tax neutral) it would be better if they were issued as income tax rebates. I also think the rebates (or reductions if its implemented that way) should be zeroed out at around maybe $200K-$250K. I think it is more important that lower income people not be impacted negatively by it. I dont think the additional cost fuel costs will matter for families making over say $250K. The unstated benefit of a carbon tax is that it would drive down the price of petroleum which would tend to defund the radical Islamists.
