Mayor James Righeimer Probably the most important re-election effort for an incumbent Mayor is Jim Righeimer’s race in Costa Mesa. Mayor Righeimer has fought the good fight against the Unions and he has consistently stood on principle to balance Costa Mesa’s budget by cutting spending, reducing waste, reforming city services, and improving infrastructure! Righeimer has never entertained a tax increase and he is a huge supporter of Costa Mesa’s groundbreaking COIN (Civic Openness In Negotiations) open-transparency ordinance. COIN brings sunlight and full disclosure of Union contracts to be presented to the public before the City Council can vote on it! COIN has been so successful, that other Orange County cities has adopted it. Righeimer’s principled stance on public employee Union contracts and pension reform has made him unpopular with the Unions. Because Righeimer and others on the City Council have stood strong, some folks have likened Costa Mesa to Wisconsin and Righeimer to Governor Scott Walker! Mayor Righeimer is also a big supporter of Costa Mesa becoming a Charter City, which will help the city govern its own affairs rather than being under State mandates. Mayor Jim Righeimer is a strong fiscal conservative and for all that he and his family have been through for taking-on the Unions, he deserves our full support for re-election this November!
