Mayor Welch Explains Open Meetings Laws To Residents -- His Version Of Them, That Is (Country Club Hills City Council Meeting -- July 28, 2014) By Marchelle Martha Barber, Publisher and Videographer for the INFORMER Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch just had a sit down with the Powers-That-Be and was told he has been violating the Open Meetings Laws. Welch hasnt been allowing residents to speak during public Administration Meetings simply because, well -- HE SAID SO! After a resident complained to the Office Of The Sherriff earlier this month, Mayor Welch now has to allow residents to speak during public Administration Meetings. But did anyone from the Sherriffs Office, or anyones office for that matter, come to a Country Club Hills public meeting to explain to residents our Open Meetings Laws and Rights? Heck, no. IT WAS MAYOR WELCH who was left to give the residents the update -- and to add how he wants to have things done when residents speak during public meetings. This reminds me of a story right out of the History books where a similar thing happened on January 1, 1863. You see, President Lincoln freed the slaves. Oh, at least -- kind of. Rather than send someone to tell the slaves who had been oppressed for generations they were free to leave, in most parts of Texas and in some other areas, the information was simply passed on to the SLAVE OWNERS AND OVERSEERS to interpret and deliver. And just like Country Club Hills corrupt Mayor Welch -- the slave owners didnt want to relinquished their power. After all, having the slaves toil every day without pay, whipped into submission and even killed for even the most minor infraction was, well -- PROFITABLE. And since it was forbidden to teach slaves how to read or write, nor was there CNN to tell slaves they were free to leave -- slave owners simply TRICKED the slaves into providing their services for two and a half more years free of charge. When the news was finally delivered to all the slaves, they commemorated June 1865 by creating the Juneteenth celebration. So, in Country Club Hills, residents still have not been properly told their Open Meetings Act Rights because they were explanation by Mayor Welch himself. Where is a public library when we need one. Thats right. Country Club Hills doesnt have one. -- INFORMER (July 29, 2014)
