Mayor Wins in Court Today - Fire Station to Stay Closed. Details are still coming in, but the verdict seems set: the judge ruled this morning that Mayor Lamarand is not in contempt of court for ignoring Council resolution to re-open fire stations. Based on what we knew before the hearing, this sounds mostly like a technical/procedural ruling over the wording of the resolution. So before North End residents put their houses up for sale, they may want to give Council a chance to fix the wording and present it to the judge. What is confusing is this is being reported out a Contempt of Court hearing. Well that make no sense since Contempt usually is when one violates a Court order, well there was no Court order ever to re-open the stations. The Court order was to accept a grant, and even though grant terms seem to indicate all stations are open, to call this Contempt was a huge stretch. All Council needs to do is re-write and pass a resolution and take it back to Judge to get court order (writ of mandamus), THEN, IF it is not followed they can go back before Judge.
