Mayor’s Thoughts… Well, we had a rude awakening in that - TopicsExpress

Mayor’s Thoughts… Well, we had a rude awakening in that winter can show up any time. People are very gun shy after what occurred last October and we do not need to see a reoccurrence of that. Hopefully, this has spurred you to think of completing your fall cleanup projects. Take some time and get your fall projects done before old man winter comes blowing down on us. I hope for a long Indian summer but realize the inevitable, winter is bound to happen. We continue to do street repair throughout town and have approved budget to purchase more equipment to assist in completing these projects. Dirk and the crews have taken on the task of repair and patching the smaller projects that an asphalt contractor is reluctant to bid and when they do, are very high priced. We will continue this as long as asphalt is available to us this fall. Budget time brought discussion on various items of city business. The Belle Fourche Development Corporation is busy working implementing a housing plan to accommodate the increased jobs available here in Belle Fourche. They are also working to secure more grants and needed funds to pursue the rail park. There is outside interest from the state for increased rail access for ag-related commodities because the entire current rail is being used to transfer oil related product. I truly believe we can be a western South Dakota/North Dakota outlet to meet the demands of these ag related businesses that are being slighted because of oil monies taking all available rail capacity. There is still plenty of time to consider running for various public servant opportunities that will be open early next year. Do it for the right reasons in that you want to see the city move forward in a positive manner. It is fine having issues that you want to address immediately but realize once they are dealt with you have the rest of your term where you will be making crucial decisions that affect the lives of everyone here in Belle Fourche. Be prepared to take responsibility for you actions and words. If you are able to, please get out and enjoy the cool mornings and warm afternoons as ma nature allows. This is by far my favorite time of the year knowing there are hunting opportunities just around the corner. Be sure to try and catch the fall colors the beautiful Black Hills provides for us here in the next couple weeks. Keep supporting “your” local community, we all appreciate it. GO BRONCS! Sincerely, Mayor Hendrickson
