McCarren All Stars WSFL Game 1 Report: We won or inaugural game on the crisp fall morning of October 5, 2014 by a score of 12 to 10 over a plucky team called Ducks On A Pond. We were missing quite a few players but we managed a to cobble together a decent enough lineup to get the job done against a good team that was missing their first 4 draft picks. Walter Pluff and Mallory Nomack showed me why I picked them as my first two draft picks through their play, leadership and knowledge of the opposing players. Wally had at least one home run and some RBIs. Andrew Ehrlick had a home run and a double while playing a great Left Center Field. I believe Mallory got on base 3 times with 2 singles and a walk. She played a great short stop handling anything that came her way. Duncan Macay filled in admirably at 2B. Marcin Smolinski played a solid first base and the right field. Issac Isaac Williams arrived late and was a bit shaky in RF but later played a great 1B when Marcin suggested that Ike, without cleats, would be better suited at first base than in the outfield. Ike hit a 9th inning solo insurance home run over Adrian Francos head. Thank God Christina Benniken showed up on a cold Sunday morning to play catcher because we would have been short a female player if she had not. Mickey Rosegrady played a great left field and had 2 base hits and a homerun. He was robbed of another base hit on a trapped ball by the Ducks left center fielder. Aaron Kleinmann played a solid LCF and had 3 base hits. He was a terror on the base paths creating a run with a tag up to 3B and then to home with a head first slide. Dude is mad fast yo. Jonathan Matos had 2 hits and an RBI. I was only 1 for 4 with a base hit. I pitched the full 9 innings with 4 strike outs, two walks (not happy about the walks) and probably had somewhere around 6 or 7 earned runs. It took me a few innings to get used to the somewhat higher strike zone. I was pretty tired from the Wedding DJ gig that I did the day before but I pitched better as the game went on and I went through the Ducks batting order. I pitched 4 shut out innings in the last 4 innings of the game as our defense clamped down on the opposition. After being worried that we would not have enough players for the game I just want to thank the players that came out and contributed. As is most often the case in my softball exploits, fun was had by all!
