McKenzie and the surrounding area had several things to keep everyone busy and entertained this past weekend. Friday evening was the McKenzie Blues and BBQ kick off. Several local and out of state BBQ contestants circled the square Friday evening in hopes that their BBQ would be chosen as the Grand Champion but there had to be only one winner and it was Keith Webb of Pirate Pork BBQ from McKenzie took home the prize of Grand Champion in the BBQ competition. Music was provided by the Revibe Band on Friday evening and then on Saturday Bluesberry Jam Band performed as well. Also on Friday evening, there was a great turn out to the Relay for Life in McKenzie and Greenfield. A great time was had by all who attended and plans are already in the making for Relay for Life 2014. Thanks to all who helped in preparations and making Relay for Life a huge success in 2013. Then on Saturday morning, bright and early, registrations began at the Steve McAdams 14th Annual Casting for a Cure free fishing rodeo at Carroll Lake. The banks of carroll lake were lined up with young anglers of all ages, hoping to get the most and biggest fish. Prizes were awarded for each category for each participating age group. Another fishing rodeo was held at the Carroll County 1000 acre recreational lake that was hosted by the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon for Relay for Life. Children of all ages were hoping as well as their fish would win the best and biggest prize. The first prize of the day went to Jalen Martin. Organizers of the event, Joey and Krista Darnall were very pleased with the turn out for the event, stating that this was the first year in doing such an endeavor but had plans to make it a yearly activity for relay for life.
