McKenzie sends in an update on... herself! ;) Hi! This is me, McKenzie. (My old name was Dezzie.) New life. New name. I’m a 2 ½ year old female Border Collie with a lot of energy. I’m also quite friendly to everyone I meet and super affectionate. Mom adopted me when I was nine months old. I had a really nice foster mom, Elise, who took great care of me after I was rescued by NEBCR. I’ve been super busy since then. My first year in my new home I learned a lot of new stuff: I learned how to ride in cars without getting car sick. I learned how to go to puppy agility class without going bonkers every time another dog moved. And I learned how to be quiet in my crate (most of the time), even at the agility trials that my sister, McLeod, was competing in. I also learned something called Rally obedience. And I went to a lot of classes and learned a lot of that agility stuff. Mom says to add that I’m really very good and relaxed in the house and didn’t need to learn much about that at all. Thanks to Elise and NEBCR. I also got to go to something called Mainefest, where I met a lot of other rescued Border Collies. I ran and ran and ran herding all of the Border Collies. Then we all went for a hike together. (We hike a lot at home, too. Mom says it’s good for burning off all that energy.) And then, a nice human called Brenda, actually let me herd real life sheep! Talk about fun!!! There are a lot of things in this world that need herding, you see. At home I herd the horses, my cat, my imaginary sheep, that only I am perceptive enough to see, and reflections. That last one Mom doesn’t seem to think is very healthy for me. So she makes me lie down. Then all the reflections escape! (Mom’s not very smart sometimes.) This past year, I started competing in agility trials. I think I’m awesome at it! So awesome, in fact, that I simply cannot tolerate Mom slowing me down in any way. In nine CPE trials here in Maine I have completed level 3 and am mostly competing in level 5. Like I said, I’m awesome!!! Well, I’m sure there’s a lot more to tell. But the imaginary sheep are escaping, so I have to go gather them up. I just want to add that I’m super grateful to NEBCR for rescuing me from the shelter and finding me a new mom whose life I could make so happy, Rescue dogs are the BEST!!! -McKenzie
