Mdina Grand Prix scrutineering to take place at SmartCity Malta The scrutineering of the participating cars in the Mdina Grand Prix will be taking on Sunday, 6th October 2013 at the SmartCity Malta car park. The scrutineering will be held between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm by a team of specialists, who will be responsible to check the cars for safety and engine specifications. Once the cars are certified no other modifications will be allowed prior to the Grand Prix. The scrutineering event at SmartCity Malta will be open to the public and will be an opportunity for car enthusiasts to see the cars on static display at the SCM car park. During this event the public will be able to view and appreciate the attention to detail of these classic cars which have withstood the test of time. Speaking about the scrutineering event, SmartCity Malta, CEO Anthony Tabone said that “we are proud to welcome these classic cars to our premises for the public to view at close range. The Mdina Grand Prix scrutineering event, together with other events we have organised in the past, such as L-Istrina mill-Qalb, is part of our commitment to open our doors to the general public. This open door commitment will be more pronounced next year when we will be inaugurating Laguna Walk. This is a €30 million investment incorporating Malta’s first lagoon with spectacular light and music choreographed fountains, food and beverage outlets offering both indoor and outdoor dining, as well as a verdant pedestrian-friendly promenade, all to be open to the general public.” This year’s Mdina Grand Prix will commence on Friday 11th October with ‘Le Concours d’Elegance’ where the judges will assess and award points to the most stylish and best kept car. Saturday morning will be devoted to practice runs, while in the afternoon the competing cars will run a series of time laps to determine the grouping and grid positions. Sunday is race day, where the cars will complete a number of racing exhibition runs to determine the eventual winner.
