Me: "Neil, do you want to share the last creme brulee?" N: "Yes!" (5 minutes later - I am eating my half, and belatedly regretting the deal) Me: "Neil, you know how I offered you a brulee? Well, when I came to look in the fridge, I found I had miscounted and they were all gone. But it occurs to me your desire for one may be so intense that you may even imagine you can see me eating one..." (He gazes fixedly and wistfully at the spoon in my right hand, and the ramekin in my left - which appears to him to contain a half moon of brulee) Me: "Dammit!" (handing over both, I am a soft touch, despite what some people say). Next time I shall keep my mouth shut (until 3 am, when I shall sneak downstairs in the dark and open it in conditions of privacy and secrecy.....).
