Me and my keyboard player who happens to be a white female just - TopicsExpress

Me and my keyboard player who happens to be a white female just left Leeds after doing a gig in Newcastle last night. We decide to go to The Olympic Cafe on New Market Street that was recommended to us to get some breakfast. Felt the bad vibes as soon as we walked in, warm, friendly and welcoming NOT!! Rudeness and scowling faces YES !! We asked if we could sit down and the woman said if we are eating in we needed to go downstairs even though there were plenty of empty seats upstairs and people were eating. We politely asked if we could sit upstairs because we had a lot of baggage and musical gear which she could plainly see. She reluctantly said we could sit upstairs and so we did and we waited and waited for someone to come and serve us. After about 10 minutes (which is a long time when youre hungry) of being ignored while the waitresses served other customers and sipped on their coffee we decided to leave. Now I understand when a restaurant is busy you have to wait a while but the right thing to do would be to go over and say something to the customer to assure them they will be served as soon as possible. So clearly if you see the customers putting on their coats and getting ready to leave that is your last opportunity to rectify the situation. They said nothing and watched us leave, still scowling. So obviously they didnt want us there in the first place. How about next time you put up a sign on your door saying no blacks and no whites accompanied by blacks!! oh yeah I forgot youre not allowed to do that anymore but you are still allowed to treat people like sh@% and get away with it, even when they are willing to spend their HARD EARNED money In your establishment to get something to eat!! This is not the first time something like this has happened to me and Im sure it wont be the last but it still amazes me how people can be so rude, mean and disrespectful to complete strangers based on how they look. My friend pointed out to me that maybe they thought we we were homeless with all our bags, even though if that was the case Ive never seen homeless people walking with keyboards, keyboard stands and leopard skin suitcases LOL and if we were, homeless people gotta eat too and in all honesty we looked like royalty compared to the people working there and all their customers. I told my friend the reason we werent served was cos she was with me and that if she had been on her own she would have had a completely different experience and she agreed. Part of me wanted to scream out excuse me We are international musicians blah blah blah but another part of me was grateful that God allowed us to see WHO these people were and WHOSE they werent BEFORE we spent our hard earned money with them.
