Me and some friends have been bemoaning the absence of brave - TopicsExpress

Me and some friends have been bemoaning the absence of brave outspoken and un-biased individuals who will speak their minds like Hassan Nisar and Najam Sethi in Pakistan and Tarek Fateh in Canada. Well let me set the record straight by naming a few who one admires although they are seen less often on the electronic media than the three named above. Former Justice of the Supreme Court, the Honorable Justice Markandey Katju is one such. I am a HUUUGE admirer of this brave and outspoken man. Being a legal luminary by professional creed he does, thank God I guess, be a bit of a stickler for the law but he speaks his mind nevertheless. The media in India, unfortunately, can not easily swallow such brave words without trying to impute motives as they did a couple of months ago when Justice Katju spoke of the corruption charges against an Additional Judge in the Tamilnadu High court being continued and given extensions by three CJIs inspire of Justice Katju having brought this to the notice of the very first of them and an enquiry having shown this to be so. The media went to town pressing Justice Katju with Why are you talking of this now? line. Visibly upset since at what was being hinted, that the revelations were made after BJP came to power to embarrass the former UPA government, Justice Katju walked out of the interview. He was upset since the interviewer chose to ignore the FACT that Justice Katju HAD immediately reported the matter to the then CJI, Justice Lahoti and even though the enquiry conducted thereafter showed their was more than merit in the allegation, Justice Lahoti as well as the two CJIs who followed kept giving extensions to the judge in question. Justice Katju obviously felt that he had more than done his duty to bring the allegations to the notice of no less a person than the CJI and that going to press is not what the Head of a High Court (Tamilnadu) should be doing while still on the bench. In any event, here is Justice Katju in another matter he brought up two years ago, with no BJP victory in sight.
