Meanwhile in Truro..... New Truro administrator to earn $120K a year TRURO — New Town Administrator Rae Ann Palmer will begin Nov. 3 and earn an annual salary of $120,000, according to Selectman Jay Coburn, chairman of the board. The selectmen approved a three-year contract with Palmer, to run from Nov. 1 through June 30, 2016, Coburn announced Tuesday. The board approved the contract in a closed-door session several weeks ago, he said. Truro is the Capes smallest and most rural town, with a year-round population of about 2,000. The town administrator is the chief administrative officer, under the direction of the selectmen. The primary areas of responsibility are finances, operations and personnel, according to town records. The towns annual operating budget for fiscal year 2014 was $16.3 million. I am really excited to begin as Truros town administrator, Palmer said in an email Wednesday. I am looking forward to working with the staff and board of selectmen and meeting the members of the community. The Truro selectmen unanimously chose Palmer on Sept. 17 after a daylong interviewing process with two other finalists. The two other candidates were Brewster Assistant Town Administrator Jillian Douglass and Provincetown Community Housing Specialist Michelle Jarusiewicz. Once the vote was taken on Sept. 17, the selectmen needed to sign a contract with Palmer, settle on a salary and other details and conduct a background check. The town administrator position was vacant due to the death in February of Town Administrator Rex Peterson. Charleen Greenhalgh, the towns assistant town administrator/planner, and consultant Robert Lawton, the retired town administrator for Yarmouth, are currently leading the town staff as co-acting town administrators. Greenhalgh will return to her original position on Nov. 3, and the selectmen are still working out the details for Lawtons assistance during the transition, Coburn said. Palmer has 30 years of administrative experience in municipal government in Connecticut. In February, she left the position of assistant town administrator in Wethersfield, Conn., after four years. Prior to that she was the assistant to the Wethersfield town manager for six years. The town of Wethersfield is a suburb of Hartford, with a population of about 26,000. Prior to working in Wethersfield, Palmer held administrative positions with the city of Hartford from 1981 to 2004. She started with the city as a buyer and left as coordinator of special projects and community programs for the citys police department. She also served as a chief management analyst in the management and budget office and then for the police department. Peterson earned $106,000 in the calendar year of 2013, according to town records. He was hired in 2011 after working for a decade as the assistant town administrator in Wellfleet.
