Meanwhile, speaking to reporters following a breakfast meeting hosted by the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry & Commerce, [CCIC], at Signature Hall, Longdenville yesterday, National Security Minister, Senator Gary Griffith, who served as President Robinson’s Aide-de- Camp, recalled that this was one of his more memorable periods in his 15 year military career. “In the fifteen years I spent in the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, I think undoubtably, something that has stayed with me, and has been one of my most significant periods in my career in the military. I was the Aide-de-Camp to his, Excellency, President Robinson,’ Griffith recalled, adding, “he was very professional, and I learnt a lot from him especially his attention to detail, and his professionalism.” He said the late President was also well known for not making decisions based on popularity, but on what was necessary for the country. “What I am actually doing now, as Minister of National Security, is not making decisions based on popularity, not making decisions because of what people will say, but doing something because it needed to be done, and he did that when he was Prime Minister, he operated in the same manner when he was President,” Griffith said, adding, “well that certainly helped me.” Griffith continued, “We have lost a great soldier in His Excellency Robinson and I say soldier based on how he operated when Trinidad and Tobago was at its darkest hour during the state of emergency and may his soul rest in peace and my condolences to his immediate family and friends and to the country.”
