Media Advisory Angling for a better relationship between police and Aboriginal kids Aboriginal children from the Shoalhaven area, on the NSW South Coast, will get the chance to wet a line today (1 October 2014) at a special Department of Primary Industries (DPI) fishing workshop run in partnership with the Shoalhaven Local Area Command. The Kops and Koori Kids Fishing Workshop is initiative which aims to divert kids away from risk taking behaviours and also to strengthen the relationship between police and the local Aboriginal community. During the workshop the kids will learn about NSW fishing rules, fishing safety, conservation of fish and their habitats, knot tying, different fishing rigs, baiting and casting techniques. An Aboriginal educator from National Parks and Wildlife will also talk to the children about local Aboriginal culture.
