Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: Boston Police Department Announces Gift of 100 iPads to Aid Investigators assigned to the BPD’s Neighborhood Drug Control, Fugitive Apprehension & Anti-Gang Units WHAT: On Friday, June 28, 2013, Commissioner Ed Davis announced the receipt of a generous donation of 100 iPads provided courtesy of the Boston Police Foundation and a gift by John Fish, Chairman and CEO of Suffolk Construction. Said Commissioner Ed Davis, “John clearly understood the need for our detectives to have the best and latest technology available. This generous gift will give our officers in the street the ability to share information and get critical intelligence analysis while still gathering evidence at an active crime scene.” The iPads – which will be given to detectives assigned to the drug, gang, fugitive and safe street teams - will be fully equipped with the all of the department’s most recent programs, applications and law enforcement databases. All of which will provide officers access to greater amounts of information while still out in the field. Having more information will result in making better, more effective tactical decisions which will result in a greater level of safety and security for both police officers and community members. Said John Fish, “At Suffolk, we were able to harness the power of innovative, state-of-the-art technologies like iPads to collaborate and share information more efficiently. Commissioner Davis and I agree this technology would have an immediate and positive impact on the Boston Police Department, so we were thrilled to be able to contribute in some way. We are living in a knowledge-based economy today, so we must all work together to ensure that our state and city employees have the same opportunities as private businesses to leverage the very latest technologies for the benefit of all our citizens.” The iPads will be distributed to officers in the coming weeks.
