Media Release December 18, 2014 Dalton Gardens, ID – Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office patrol sergeants embody true spirit of service to the community. On December 12, 2014 at just past 5:00pm, Sergeant Jon Brandel was patrolling in the City of Dalton Gardens when he saw a small sedan eastbound on Hanley Ave at a very slow pace with several other cars following. It appeared the driver of the car was having some difficulty and kept pulling into the bicycle lane. Sergeant Brandel stopped the car and contacted the driver, an 89 year old Dalton Gardens resident. During the contact with the driver, it became apparent that she was having difficulty. She told Sergeant Brandel that she couldn’t see well and was just trying to get back to her house. She went on to say she had gone to the store for groceries because she had been out for a few days and was starting to get hungry. She also said she hadn’t planned on being out so long and when she started for home, it became dark and started to rain, so she was having difficulty locating her residence. As Sergeant Brandel was attempting to locate a family member to assist her, Sergeant Ward Crawford arrived on scene and stayed with her. Sergeant Brandel was unable to locate any relatives so he and Sergeant Crawford transported the female and her car to her residence and assisted in getting her and her groceries into the house. While the sergeants spoke to the female, she said she didn’t have any relatives in the area, but the neighbors checked on her from time to time. She also said she was planning on returning to the store the next day to purchase some milk. Realizing the difficulty this would be, Sergeant Brandel drove to the store and purchased the milk for her and delivered it to her house. Her information was passed on to the local Area Agency on Aging for follow up. Ben Wolfinger, Sheriff By: Lieutenant Stu Miller
