Media Release For Immediate Release – Sunday 15th September 2013 “McNally recovers to secure top five Sandown finish” Rhys McNally has experienced a thoroughly mixed day of combining race two and three to complete the fifth round of the Auto One V8 Ute Series protected by Armor All at Sandown International Raceway including a race win and eventual top five round finish. With the traditional reverse grid race for the second event of the weekend, Rhys started from second and took full advantage from the outset. The West Australian stormed to the lead early and pulled away, lapping his quickest time on his eighth time around going on to take victory by almost four seconds. “I got a great jump away from the start and battled with Craig (Dontas) early in the race, we had the setup tuned finely and this allowed me to pull away and maximise my speed on the long Sandown straights setting us up for a great final race,” McNally said. Again starting from the front row in the third and final race, McNally got away to a blistering start alongside former V8 Supercar driver Nathan Pretty. Rhys led approaching turn one before a miscalculation in braking saw him spear off into the grass, re-joining just outside the top ten. Looking to fight his way back through the field, the Stratco Racing Holden found itself in eighth by the completion of the race. The results saw Rhys eventually take fourth for the round with three events remaining. “It was a disappointing way to start the final race especially after our awesome run in race two, the car certainly has pace and it’s now about exhibiting that pace in the right fashion, I’m switching my focus to Bathurst now, it’s one of the biggest events in the year and one of the most challenging tracks, this Championship is still on the line and I’m still chasing it,” McNally concluded. Round six of the Auto One V8 Ute Series protected by Armor All takes place at the 2013 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 for the V8 Supercars on October 10-13.
