Media Release, January 16, 2014. Truck-Bridge Collision Innisfil Beach Road under the 400 was closed for 5 hours yesterday. On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, around 9:00 a.m., a dump truck hauling a backhoe on a flatbed trailer got wedged under a bridge on Innisfil Beach Road at Highway 400. The backhoes boom arm was too high for the bridge, striking it and wedging the trailer and backhoe firmly beneath the structure. Officers from the Ministry of Transportations Heavy Vehicle & Truck Inspection Unit attended to assist South Simcoe Police. Engineers also came to the site, and determined that despite the impact, the bridge remained structurally sound. The bridge suffered only cosmetic damage. A 42 year old Barrie man and his employer were charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences. The trailer was a complete loss, and the backhoe will need extensive repairs. Damage is estimated at over $100,000. Innisfil Beach Road was reopened to traffic at 2:00 p.m. Warn Range Suspension On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, around 5:15 p.m., a South Simcoe Police officer stopped a contractors van on Westmount Avenue, Innisfil. After speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the man had been drinking. A roadside screening device test resulted in a warn. A 37 year old Brampton man had his drivers licence suspended for three days. His sober co-worker was able to drive the van home.
