**Media Release** On December 29, 2014 at approximately 11:15 am, Detective Sergeant Bruce Edwards was conducting a supplemental investigation in the area of Lin Square when he noted what appeared to be a male subject removing a rifle from the trunk of a vehicle and then attempting to conceal same beneath his coat. There were several other individuals inside the vehicle at the time. This subject then walked across the parking lot and to the rear of another vehicle where he removed the rifle from beneath his coat and placed it in the rear of that vehicle. Based upon these observations, Sergeant Edwards and Detective Brandon Richardson made contact with this individual and identified him as Keith Higgs. When confronted Higgs stated that he was in the process of selling the firearm to someone else. During the conversation Sergeant Edwards learned that Higgs had previously been convicted of a felony criminal offense, which was confirmed by state records. Higgs was subsequently placed under arrest for Possession of a Firearm by Felon. Contact was then made with the operator of the vehicle that Higgs had originally removed the firearm from, who was identified as Kendrick Everette. It was learned that Everette also had been previously convicted of a felony criminal offense. What’s more, a second rifle was found inside his vehicle. Consequently, Everette was placed under arrest as well for Possession of a Firearm by Felon. Both were secured in the Edgecombe County Detention Center with Higgs receiving a $10,000.00 bond and Everette receiving a $100,000.00 bond.
