Media Statement 18 March 2014 (for immediate release) ANC Limpopo applauds the Executive Councils decision to place Mogalakwena Municipality under Administration. The ANC welcomes the decision by the Limpopo Executive Council (EXCO) to place the Mogalakwena Local Municipality under Section 139 1(b) of the Constitution. This decision is preceded by numerous attempts by both the ANC and Coghsta to resolve the challenges at the Municipality. We have confidence in the legal processes initiated be the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs to restore the integrity and capability of the Mogalakwena Municipality as prescribed by the Constitution and other laws. The decision to place Mogalakwena Municipality under administration is a demonstration of the commitment by the ANC-led administration of not tolerating any actions or inactions from any quarter that compromises the ability of our communities to receive services. A decision like this, can only be viewed as being in the interest of the people, they are the real winners. The ANC has noted and respects the intention of the former Municipal Manager, Mr. Kekana to appeal the court judgement that found the contract of his employment as illegal and unlawful. The intended appeal cannot be used to derail the efforts of the Administrator. The ANC urges all the stakeholders in the Municipality to abide by the decision on the EXCO and co-operate with the Administrator to bring about permanent solutions in the Municipal Council. End.
