Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre Corporate Communication South African Police Service 04 July 2014 (via Ruth Hughes) A three-day joint operation by the SAPS Provincial Tracking Team, Ezenvelo KZN Wildlife and Zululand Anti-Poaching Wing was conducted around Jozini and Umhlabuyalingana area to curb rhino poaching. The operation was conducted from 27 June until 1 July 2014 was aimed to arrest suspects who were intending to poach rhinos in the area. During the cordon and search operations, the members recovered four 9mm military cases, nine Suni horns, 50kg of dagga, dead fish Eagle, green Turtle (skull and shell), two Nyala horns, Rhino/Hippo skin and African Rock Python skin. The operations will continue to be conducted with other role players in the near future to prevent rhino poaching in the area. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni encouraged members to continue with the good work in hunting down these merciless criminals to ensure that they get arrested and convicted. “We will remain committed and determined to confront rhino poaching from all angles,” she said.
