IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SEATTLE CASCADIA PROJECT TO HOLD ANTI-WAR RALLY AND MARCH WITH SPEAKERS FROM VARIOUS COMMUNITY-BASED PEACE ORGANIZATIONS As part of an upcoming national day of action on Saturday, August 3rd beginning at 11:00am at Westlake Center, Cascadians Against War (C.A.W.) will be sponsoring a bloc in the Seattle Anti-War rally and march. People will gather in solidarity on behalf of themselves and/or affiliated organization(s) to speak out about issues they find unjust and wrong with our current federal government and administration. From Westlake Center, participants will march to the Federal Building on 1st and Marion where there will be an open-mic forum for anyone to voice their dissent with the current state of affairs. The organizers of this protest realize that there is an abundant amount of issues that individuals and communities find particularly important and also pertain to the Pacific Northwest, specifically. Cascadians Against War, in partnership with the Seattle Cascadia Project, are interested in working to represent a broad voice and allow as many concerns as there may be to be heard. More than just an anti-war march, C.A.W. wishes for this to be a uniquely Cascadian action unencumbered by the traditional connotations and right/left politics of past events. In addition, they intend for this event to be a way for individuals and organizations to not simply protest issues, policies, etc. that they find wrong with our current government, but also to present a more positive vision for the Pacific Northwest. The current list of speakers include: Elizabeth Hanson (Flush the TPP), Jeffery W. Talada (The Pirate Party), author David Spring (“Free Yourself from Microsoft and the NSA), Brian Gunn (Move to Amend King County), Michael LaPointe (third-party candidate and member of Occupy Everett), Doc Leong (KlwnArmy Radio), Emma Kaplan (World Can’t Wait), Dave Roland (libertarian constitutional expert speaking out about the “indefinite detention” provision of the NDAA), Jordan Martinez (Socialist Alternative), and a representative from the Freedom Socialist Party. Cascadians Against War (C.A.W.) and the Seattle Cascadia Project work to raise awareness of the idea of Cascadia, to increase bioregional independence within our communities socially, politically, economically and environmentally, to further democratic governing principles, civil liberties, digital privacy, human rights and regional sustainability as well as to network and coordinate with groups with similar goals.
