Media release Palmer United Party would boost education funding by $20bn Federal leader of the Palmer United Party, Clive Palmer, said today he would increase funding by $20 billion to raise Australian education standards once elected. The Palmer United Party’s education platform would also focus on reduced class sizes, a uniformed Australia-wide curriculum, more teachers and better pay opportunities. “Investing in education is one of the most important things we can do for Australia,’’ Mr Palmer said. “If elected, the Palmer United Party will increase funding to education by $20 billion to raise standards in primary and secondary schools across the government and independent sectors. “The funding would be paid directly to the schools who know what their needs are, rather than administered by the states,’’ he said Mr Palmer said his party would also legislate to reduce classroom sizes to a maximum of 30 students. “The unfortunate situation with such large classroom sizes across the country at present is that our schools are in danger of becoming little more than child-minding centres,’’ Mr Palmer said. The Palmer United Party would also increase teacher numbers and review teacher pay levels to ensure the best teachers providing the best education were retained in the system. Other education reforms proposed by the Palmer United Party include making private school fees tax deductable and introducing a common education syllabus across Australia to reduce duplication and waste.
