Media & social media : the impotence in our thinking: --------------------------------------------------------------------- The modern minds prefer amusement,entertainment,sensation and sophistic debates over thought and intellect. The ice bucket challenges that blown over the social media was a typical example of this as instead of creating a context in which the understanding about the disease grows and enlightens us with the nature and seriousness of the disease and how it can affect a life of a man understanding the suffering and the struggle of the patient ,the world was handling the disease with a sense of entertainment and competition. In fact we trivialized the disease and did not take it seriously as a disease as it should be. The excessive dependence on social media to understand the reality of things and matters,produces half-backed minds,minds that are exposed to just frictions of scattered of information from posts, status updates and the news too. We process things out of their context (the context has been removed to fit in the fast tempo of virtual life),we do not know how ideas and incidents are evolved and devolved to reach their current form and the realization of the full picture became almost impossible. Our modern minds are not patient to read an entire book or even a long status update that may require effortful focus and processing. Our minds are inclined to search for what validates their presumptions rather than searching for the truth of things through considering,weighing and evaluating. To fill that space(gap) we find ourselves fell into the trap of admiring our own opinions pushing us to engage into shallow arguments in which we search for a sense of worth and dominance and a sense of self-righteousness to excessive over others. On the other hand,the purpose of education that should put us in a better position to develop our characters ( better human beings ) is lost in the realm of ignorance and the fast tempo of news and thoughts that are created to entertain and offered to the minds in a decontextualized frictional forms that we forget as soon as they come across our exhausted minds leaving a new space for another bunch of news (Garbage in-Garbage out). Even in our career and life goals this way of thinking has its shadows as we try to be motivated as much as we can rather than trying to find a meaning and purpose in what we do which ends us in a vicious cycle of dissatisfaction and a missing state of self-actualization. Continuous (education) is the only way to take actions.....is the only way to free us from cages of media,propaganda and the virtual world that we are not fully aware yet of their powerful effect in shaping our modern minds.
