Medical Camp cancer screening Residents of Sweet Waters in Laikipia Central benefited from a free medical camp and cancer screening exercise with an aim of sensitizing the public on the importance of regular medical checkups. The Camp organized by Mathari Mission Hospital in collaboration with Laikipia County Executive member in charge of Health Dr. David Njoroge saw over one thousand residents checked and treated of various ailments. The public also received the much necessary Cervical and Breast cancer screening free of charge a service that doctors noted that should be made available to everyone. Speaking during the camp held at Sweet Waters secondary school, Mathari Mission Hospital representative Bernard Kanyi noted that all cancers can be cured if detected at an early stage and called on Kenyans to make sure they get screened regularly. He said that their medical camps are making sure that they screen all people who attend them. Kanyi noted that residents are buying medicine over the counter before getting the required consultation not knowing that the complications might be as a result of something bigger. He said that this should be discouraged at all levels to make sure patients get the required treatment from qualified personnel. Dr Njoroge noted that the camps are concentrating on high blood pressure, hypertension and cancers as well as upper respiratory infections which are common in the region. He said that most of children diseases in the region are allergy associated which are treated regularly as well as diarrhea. He reemphasized the importance of cancer screening and urged residents to visit area medical facilities where the services are readily available. According to Mathari Hospital School of Nursing chairman Eric Mwangi the camp is the 12th in the region as Mathari Hospital celebrates its 75th year of service. Mwangi said that this is a show of support to people who have been seeking treatment from the hospital and they have been able to reach over ten thousand patients during the camps. Ends
