But if you are running what is the best way of doing it, more specifically the arm swing. At the University of Colorado, they did experiments with the arm thing and found the following. The reason why people do it naturally is balance because if the arms were restricted in any way, they became unbalanced. They actually wobbled. Stopping arm motion also increased energy requirements by 9% by crossing them and 13% by putting them on your head. If you want to be the best efficient runner, swing your arms back and forth in the same plane that you are running. Not across your body but do swing your arms. If you want the BEST aerobic form of exercise, walk fast with 3-5 lb. weights (power walking) to get your heart rate up and hold it there (isometrics). If you insist on running, call an orthopedist early and get a reservation for those joint replacements. Tomorrow, running and damage to your lungs.
