Medical imaging services best Christmas present for Capricorn Coast media release (edited) Capricorn Coast Hospital and Health Service patients now have access to medical imaging services for the very first time thanks to a partnership between CQHHS and CQ Radiology. Member for Keppel Bruce Young said the start of medical imaging at Capricorn Coast Hospital and Health Service was welcome news to the community. “Previously patients requiring any kind of medical imaging outside of working hours would have the inconvenience of travelling to Rockhampton, whether that was for a broken bone or something more severe.” Mr Young said. “Having the services available here on the coast will reduce travel demands on patients, reduce the pressure on Rockhampton health services and provide a more comprehensive range of local services for Capricorn Coast residents.” These services include CTs, x-rays, ultrasound, echocardiography and dental scans. “I’m very passionate about local health services and this is something I fought strongly for.” Acting Director Medical Services Dr Tim Currie said the availability of medical imaging services have already made a huge difference. “It was a real deterrent to the region not having medical imaging services before.” “The availability of these services means we can now properly diagnose and manage patients here rather than sending them to Rockhampton Base Hospital.” CQ Radiology Commercial Operations Officer Helen Stevens said the Capricorn Coast medical imaging service would initially be utilised by up to 50 patients per day. “The imaging reports are electronic, allowing all GP’s, specialists and hospital doctors to access images and reports through a web portal.” Ms Stevens said. “Services are also available through private referral and are bulkbilled for Medicare eligible patients.”
