Medicare issue for you or to pass along to your elderly friends/relatives: I recently had the misfortune to have had family medical expenses of a sizable amount and was told by several providers that as of 01/01/2014, Medicare (which was to receive medical invoices first) had become my secondary (which under normal preferences should receive medical invoices AFTER Medicare) and not my primary as it had been for the last six years of my 15 years of retirement. Well, it seems that some mysterious spirit changed my Medicare preferences as of the first of the year. Checking with several of the providers, I was told that this is not out of the ordinary. I called Medicare (1-855-798-2627 and followed the interminable selections) and my preferences were changed back by a nice customer service representative, to what they were prior to 01/01/2014. I was told that somehow the record showed that I was still working and not retired....PLEASE, after 15 years of retirement my record now mysteriously changes? I urge all of you to pass this on and have any Medicare recipient check out the status to insure that their preferences are correct before its too late and many problems arise at a time when they dont need any more stress.
