Meditation. 24/6/45. Feast of St John the Baptist God has enabled you to receive His public revelation in full, through the Scriptures, through the doctrine of the Church. He doesn’t speak in vain; He expects you to live that revelation to the full. Are you doing so? Love seeks always to please its beloved; love makes like, love desires always the company of its beloved. If this is so, love is primarily a matter of the will. God has been giving me new light on the Incarnation, His words, the Church and her teaching. All these are but means, necessary of course, to increase the union between man and God. He took our nature that He might restore friendship, love and affection between God and men. So I must use all these means for that end only viz. to love God more, to come nearer to Him. How stupid is pride which makes the creature forget his entire dependence on God. Since pride tends to divorce the creature from God it is necessarily opposed to that realization of God’s nearness and love. A truly humble man knows that God must always be close to him; therefore he is drawn to love Him.
