Meditation for today - Mar 7 Duty over desire Matthew 26:39, 42-44 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. ” 42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” 43 And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. As believers, our duties take preeminence over our desires. We walk on the path of duty and not on the path of our desires. And It doesnt matter whether we are assisted down this path or whether we are even appreciated for a job well done, We do not get to live our lives as we will, we do not get to do as desired but rather to do and live as instructed. The bible records the question Manoa, the father of Samson asked The Angel when The angel visited them and instructed them concerning the soon to be born child See - Judges 13:12 Manoah said, “Now let Your words come to pass! What will be the boy’s rule of life, and his work?” Your purpose on earth will determine your rule of life. And Both were selected for Samson before he was born. Samson had no input into it whatsoever. So, his duty had to take preeminence over his desire and, When he let his desire to lead rather than his duty, the outcome was pathetic. Thats why apostle Paul also tells us as recorded in - I Corinthians 9:17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. Paul is telling us that, whether he wants to do it is not the issue but, The issue is, he has to do it......hmmmm Grace oh grace...to do what we have to do, to live on the path of duty.. ...Oh Lord we ask.
