Meditation is not about learning how to repress our thoughts so we can have a quiet, peaceful mind. Neither is it obsessing on our thoughts or trying to repress them; we can simply notice them and then bring our attention back to some present experience, like our breathing, bodily sensations, or sensory experiences of our environment. In this approach to practice, experiencing wakefulness is more important than a forced march toward an artificial sense of peace.
